Unearthed

by Alys Metcalf

Folio in association with The Brewhouse and Carers Trust

On their 18th birthday, twins Ben and Eliza bury a time capsule in the Somerset countryside to mark the occasion and cement their bond, but the day goes horribly wrong.

Some years later, the two siblings, now estranged and living far apart, are forced back together on a quest to honour the unusual wishes in their late father’s will.

They find themselves thrown into absurd and ludicrous situations and forced to confront a few home truths, on an enlightening mission that will reignite past memories and dig up some well-buried secrets…

Unearthed has enjoyed two successful tours (both supported by ACE) playing at venues including Salisbury Playhouse, Hull Truck, St James Theatre, Trowbridge Arts, Pound Arts, The Brewhouse Theatre, The Arcola, The New Wimbledon, South Hill Park & Cheltenham Everyman.

The production received 5* and 4* reviews and was subsequently listed in The Guardian as one of their readers’ favourite shows of 2015. To read the full article on The Guardian’s website, please follow this link

"Complex, compassionate, warm, witty and poignant"

"Many parts of the performance I wanted to shout out 'yes'. This is because as a carer I could completely resonate to parts of the story."

"Our pupils were inspired by the brilliant 'Unearthed'"
Wellington School Drama Department
"From a dramatic point of view, Unearthed is quite ‘meaty’. It deftly tackles the sensitive situation of younger family members caring long-term for an infirm parent – their subjugation of personal feelings and postponement of short-term plans for the future. The play also highlights the potential criticism of healthcare by family members who don’t live in close proximity of their relatives"
Female Arts
"Unearthed is a small-scale theatre production at it’s best"
